Habitually Chic, May 1, 2017: "“Richard Mishaan’s Patterned Parlor Room"

“For the 2017 Kips Bay Decorator Show House, interior designer Richard Mishaan designed a room in which Lee Radziwill might feel at home. The ode to Renzo Mongiardino was also inspired by rooms that are collected over time like those in old family homes in Venice and Florence. Homes that are filled with silks and velvets and other treasures collected over years of travel.

The highlight of the room is the printed custom wallpaper by Iksel Decorative Arts that was taken from a hand-painted wood paneled reception room from a house in Syria that dates back to early 1600. In the late 19th-century, the room was purchased by a German collector and shipped to Berlin where it is now installed in the Pergamon Museum.

While a patterned rug might seem at odds with the patterned walls, the 19th century Serapi Persian rug from F.J. Hakimian creates the perfect grounding for the room. Rounding out the design are pillows in fabric from Luigi Bevilacqua, a plaster light fixture from Stephen Antonson’s Brooklyn studio, and a Walton Ford panther painting.”
