Scene Magazine, February 2013: "Up Next"

"Homer: Richard Mishaan's shop gets a new home base."

Scene: What can you tell us about your shop?

RM: Homer is a place that will be re-imagined seasonally to reflect the way we live in each of the four seasons. I see it as a place to find ideas and to seek inspiration. You will be able to find a variety of things at different prices but that all reflect a design vision and a moment in time.

Scene: Who is your customer?

RM: Homer is for the art collector, collectible furniture aficionado, and everyone in between.

Scene: Do you have a signature piece or aesthetic? RM: I am a collector myself and have discovered and featured some of the best designers in the world. I was first to bring the work of Olivier Gagnere, Herve Van der Straeten, Francois Champsaur, Eric Schmitt and so many others to America. I was able to offer items from the estate of Tony Duquette and other design greats. So I think that the key to what I do is allow my clients to discover these masters when I do and partake in the value of buying their items while they are still affordable. I have people tell me with great excitement that what they bought several years ago for a reasonable price is now worth a fortune.

Scene: What is your favorite room in the house to decorate? And why?

RM: The library. It is the coziest and because it is the second most formal room, it usually have the most ambiance.

Scene: Who are your interior design icons?

RM: Mongiardino, Carlos de Beistegul, Gio Ponti, Yves Saint Laurent, Le Corbusier, Tommi Parzinger. There are too many to mention them all.

Scene: What five words would you use you describe Homer?

RM: Artful, curated, valuable, exclusive, and priceless.
